A code is not a diagnosis.

Diagnostics is the single thing customers mention most often about this shop, and it is worth explaining why it takes time. A code like P0171 does not say “replace this part.” It says one specific measurement was outside its expected range. There are usually six or seven reasons that happens.

What it usually turns out to be

The part named in the code is fine, and the fault is upstream of it: a split hose, a corroded connector, a chafed wire rubbing on a bracket. That is why a free code read at a parts counter so often ends with a new sensor and the same light two weeks later. You paid for a part; nobody tested anything.

An engine bay from above with the cover off, intake and wiring exposed.

How you’d know

A light came on and someone already read the code for free

Bring the code. It is a useful starting point and it saves us a step. It is not a conclusion.

A part was replaced and the problem came back

Very common, and not your fault. It means the code was treated as the answer.

It only does it when it’s cold, or wet, or after twenty minutes

Intermittent faults are the hard ones, and the condition you just described is the most valuable thing you can tell us.

Nothing is wrong but it feels wrong

You drive this car every day. If it feels different, something is different. That is a legitimate reason to bring it in.

What we do

Full scan of every module, not just the engine

Live data under load: the readings while the fault is actually happening

Circuit testing at the connector: power, ground, signal

Smoke testing for vacuum and evaporative leaks

A written finding: what it is, what it will take, what it will cost, before anything starts

You get the number before the work starts, not after.

Bring it in.
